College Journal Name Announcement

On 15 October  the College community gathered to celebrate the announcement of the name of our College’s journal.

In keeping with the vision of the College, this journal seeks to serve to resource lay and ordained members of the wider church as:

  • co-creators and facilitators of communities of faith and for the healing of the world
  • contributors to social change and social cohesion; and,
  • enablers of a truly transforming humanity.

As such the journal adopts a prophetic orientation explicitly informed by the understanding that we are all made in the image of God, encouraging a method of theological reflection that is interdisciplinary, contextual and critical, anchored in the Anglican tradition and ethos, catholic in spirituality, evangelical in teaching and praxis, and ecumenical in outlook, for the renewal of the church and society.

Through such an approach the journal hopes to promote discipleship that enables ministry, from an African worldview and context, that is critical, creative, informed and transforming, and that draws us towards the God in whose image we are created.

Ms Vanda Chittenden receives a certificate of thanks for naming the College Journal

In September this year we asked our current students to propose names for the journal. Many good suggestions were made and the task of deciding between them was no easy matter. Thanks to all who participated.

The winning name was chosen because it gives clear expression to the values, scope, and aim of the journal, making reference to Africa as a whole, to the intention to promote and convey prophetic theology, whilst also recognising the importance of engaging with context, both that of the church and of the societies in which it is embedded.

The winning name proposed by Ms Vanda Chittenden. is:

Ecclesia Africana: Prophetic Theology for Church and Society

Ms Chittenden is shown here receiving a certificate and gift in recognition of her contribution to the College Journal.

A call for papers will be published soon, so keep an eye on our College website and social media spaces for how you can get involved in the first issue of Ecclesia Africana which will be published in 2025.
